Decide which racing problem you want to learn
Club racing fits a driver ready to learn starts, competing for position, incident responsibility, and race preparation. There is no single national license system and no single type of car. A local sprint program may fit better than endurance racing. A shared endurance car may fit better than owning and transporting a car.
Start with the racing you want, your recent track history, instructor references, available weekends, and total operating budget. Bring representative video and data, not only your best lap. The goal is to pick the next application and the next learning task.
A concrete example of eligibility
PCA’s 2026 rules require membership, age 18 or older, and a current PCA Club Racing license. Its rookie application calls for at least 12 track days in the prior 24 months, including at least six PCA or equivalent DE days, plus Chief Driving Instructor certification, medical paperwork, and committee approval. Orientation and monitored rookie participation follow approval.
Its experienced-racer route requires a current full competition license and at least six completed races in the prior 24 months. A time-trial license is not accepted for that transfer route. POC has a separate clinic pathway. Its 2026 application generally calls for six POC time-trial events, with fewer possible for documented racing experience, and two successful clinic weekends subject to instructor approval.
Ask the chosen organization which current path applies before you book a school or buy a car.
Choose the class before the car
PCA permits only Porsche-manufactured sports cars and has stock, prepared, spec, modified, and factory-race-car categories. A Spec Boxster, a modified road Porsche, and a GT3 Cup car present different class and support questions. Other clubs have their own eligible makes and classes.
Check the logbook, technical inspection, seat and harness fit, safety-equipment dates, spare parts, transport, and damage obligations. For a rented seat, get the car specification and written responsibilities before comparing prices.
How I help
I structure sim-plus-track preparation and video and data debriefs around race decisions, consistency, and protecting the car. Where the class rules allow it, I can share the car with you. Practice driver changes, radios, emergency egress, and handover notes when the selected race uses co-drivers.
PCA allows two-driver cars in different run groups. Check the event’s enduro protocol for a shared-stint format. If shared-car racing is your goal, compare AER, WRL, and ChampCar as separate applications.
Questions before applying
Where does an instructor signoff fit?
It is one part of the chosen organization’s process. Medical, application, school, experience, conduct, and car requirements are separate steps.
Should I buy a Cup car to make progression easier?
Pick the championship, class, support and budget first. A Cup car and a GT4 car are different platforms.
What evidence should I keep?
Keep official results, event dates, run groups, instructor contacts, licenses, and an honest incident history. Use video and data to show your current readiness.
