American Endurance Racing teams and driver approval

AER combines long races with a separate driver-vetting process. Evaluate the team and event, then move from a Crew account to Driver status.

Fit starts with team endurance

American Endurance Racing fits a driver who wants to contribute repeatable stints in a production-based race car and work within a team. Traffic, changing conditions, mechanical care and communication are central to the experience. A long race is more than a larger amount of solo track time.

Start with your goal. It may be your first credible race application, improving an existing endurance role, or comparing teams. Bring recent official results, licenses, instructor references and representative video. If wheel-to-wheel driving is new, the approval conversation comes before a seat purchase.

Events, classes and cars

The 2026 Mid-Ohio material shows numbered classes, including Classes 1 through 4. That weekend used a Friday two-hour qualifying race followed by two eight-hour races. A 14-hour NJMP event also appears in the 2026 index.

My AER car was a BMW M240i. Ask the team and AER about the exact platform, preparation, class assignment, technical rules and event requirements for your car. Compare a car’s serviceability, cockpit fit and support as well as its potential pace.

The public index lists the 2026 events.

Driver approval

AER’s registration FAQ says new accounts begin as Crew. AER reviews credentials and may request a phone interview before changing an account to Driver status. Membership is required, and the team captain adds drivers to the entry.

AER publishes no fixed minimum experience threshold. Submit your actual background and ask AER what it needs.

Evaluate a shared-car offer

Ask how many drivers share the car, how practice and race time are assigned, and how the team handles fatigue, weather or a driver falling behind the plan. Rehearse fit, egress, belts, radios and driver changes. Review pit procedures against the AER rules.

Get clear written terms for consumables, mechanical failure, damage, coaching and unused driving time. Speak to the team about the actual event and lineup.

How I help

I won AER Class 4 at VIR on July 15 and 16, 2023 in a BMW M240i with Kaizen Autosport. I coach team preparation and driving priorities at the track and in the simulator, and I review your data with you. We work on consistent inputs, traffic losses and useful handover notes. Where the class rules allow it, I can share the car with you.

Compare WRL for its distinct licensing routes and classes. Choose club racing preparation if the immediate need is documented wheel-to-wheel learning.

Questions before applying

Can I race as soon as I create an AER account?

Accounts start as Crew. Driver status follows credential review, and the captain adds you to the event entry.

What is a driver-needed listing?

It marks an event that needs drivers.
