World Racing League readiness and shared-car racing

WRL is team endurance racing for drivers with track experience. Match your documented experience to its licensing paths and evaluate the car and team.

Who WRL fits

World Racing League fits a driver with relevant track experience who wants meaningful responsibility in a shared endurance car. The driving problem is sustaining useful pace through mixed traffic while protecting equipment and communicating with the crew. A team needs a dependable stint, not just a quick qualifying lap.

WRL does not accept complete novices. Start with a goals-first assessment of your experience. If basic circuit operation is still new, HPDE is the right first step.

Cars and classes

WRL’s 2026 class page lists GP1, GP2, GTO and GTU. GP1 and GP2 are production classes using power-to-weight and modifiers. GTO and GTU are the faster GT classes. Check the current class rules for your car’s preparation, and check that your car’s specification is accepted for each event.

Licensing paths

WRL’s licensing page describes several paths. They include a current conventional competition license, or at least eight hours of wheel-to-wheel racing supported by a résumé and prior-series contact. A qualifying Advanced/Solo HPDE or instructor background can also be reviewed using a chief driving instructor approval form. The experience-based paths begin on probation under the published process.

Evaluate the team and rehearse the handover

Ask how the team assesses drivers, how it assigns practice and stints, and which car data drivers can review. Check seat, pedal, belt, cooling and radio fit with full equipment. Rehearse driver changes and emergency egress. Agree on traffic priorities, fuel calls, mechanical warning signs and who makes the decision to stop.

Get the full cost and responsibility picture in writing. Include consumables, testing, damage, mechanical failure, weather, and what happens if the car cannot reach your stint.

How I help

I drove a Supra GT4 in WRL at Mid-Ohio and Road Atlanta, taking the car from mid-pack to the lead in my stints. I coach stint execution, team communication and mixed-traffic decisions at the track and in the simulator, and I review your data with you to find a repeatable correction before the next event. Where the class rules allow it, I can share the car with you.

Compare AER for a separate team-endurance approval process. Choose based on your car, team, goals and current readiness.

Questions before applying

Can advanced HPDE experience be considered?

Yes, through WRL’s specified review route and required instructor documentation. Probation can apply.
