IMSA Pilot Challenge GS and TCR guide

GS is GT4 and TCR is touring-car racing. Both share Pilot Challenge's endurance setting, while GS Bronze Cup eligibility is narrower than general participation.

Who this fits

IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge is a shared-car endurance championship for drivers considering GT4 or TCR competition. GS is the GT4 class. TCR is the touring-car class. They race within the same championship in different cars.

The announced 2027 calendar has ten races, with eight two-hour races and four-hour races at Daytona and Mid-Ohio.

Cars and co-driving

GS includes eligible GT4 machinery. I drove a Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 in the series. A Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is another GT4 platform. A 911 GT3 Cup car is not a GT4 or GS car. TCR requires its own eligible touring-car platform.

The 2026 rules require at least two drivers. Daytona and Mid-Ohio permit up to three, while other races permit up to two. Shared setup, stint preparation, traffic judgment and handovers are real performance tasks.

Eligibility and Bronze Cup

FIA ratings are not required for general participation, and Platinum drivers are prohibited. IMSA membership and driver approval apply. The Bronze Cup requirement applies to GS Bronze Cup only, which requires Bronze status under its rules.

Rules shown are the 2026 rules.

How I help

I won the GS Bronze Cup at Daytona on January 24, 2025 and at Mid-Ohio on June 8, 2025. We raced the No. 53 Kingpin Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 with an all-Bronze three-driver lineup, sharing with Satakal Khalsa and Rob Walker. I am lining up the 2027 four-hour rounds at Daytona (January 28 to 31) and Mid-Ohio (June 11 to 13).

I coach shared-car GS preparation at the track and in the simulator, and I review your data with you. Where the class rules allow it, I can share the car with you.

GT4 America is a parallel GT4 destination. Porsche Endurance Challenge and International GT programs are good preparation.

Questions drivers ask

Do I need a Bronze rating to race Pilot Challenge?

FIA ratings are not required for general participation. GS Bronze Cup is a separate class with a Bronze requirement. IMSA approval is required.

Can I bring a Porsche Cup car into GS?

No. A 911 GT3 Cup is not GT4 machinery. Pick an eligible GT4 platform and check its current technical specification with the team.
