Who this fits
Lucky Dog Racing League suits a driver who wants a team job as well as track time. Sharing a production-based endurance car means working around other drivers’ needs, servicing the car and making decisions that preserve the whole race.
Begin with your goal and experience. If flags and traffic are still unfamiliar, HPDE gives you an instructed learning environment before you join a race team.
Cars, classes and model year
The 2027 rulebook describes A, B, C and Super Dog groups and Hankook RS4 tires. Its car-year statement says 2012 or older. The organizer’s 2027 schedule page says 2010 or older. Send the organizer the exact model, year, preparation and proposed event, and get a written answer. Check the current technical and safety rules.
Co-driving
The 2027 rules require at least two drivers for races up to 12 hours and three for 24 hours. One driver is in the car at a time while teammates handle the next stop and their own recovery.
The 2027 rules call for a valid U.S. or international driver’s license rather than an external competition license. They recommend HPDE for novices.
Evaluate the team before the seat
Ask how drivers are assessed and how practice time is allocated. Fit every driver in the seat with full equipment. Rehearse egress, belt changes, radios and pit procedures. Agree on stint allocation, weather decisions, mechanical retirement, damage liability, consumables and refunds in writing.
The organizer has posted a 2027 schedule. Entry conditions vary by event. The Laguna Seca event is lottery-only.
How I help
I coach goals-first assessment at the track and in the simulator, and I review your video and data with you. Corkscrew Coaching runs my Laguna Seca coaching. Compare Lemons for its different car-value and classing approach.
Questions before committing
Is a 2012 car eligible for 2027?
The rulebook says 2012 or older and the schedule page says 2010 or older. Settle the exact car with the organizer before spending money.
Does the lack of an external race-license requirement make this a novice school?
No. It is wheel-to-wheel competition. Ask the organizer and team what preparation, instruction and supervision your background requires.
Will Lucky Dog racing help me move to WRL or a professional series?
Yes. Keep accurate results and references, then follow the target organizer’s approval process.
