HSR historic racing and endurance program choices

Historic racing is a destination with its own cars and approvals. HSR runs one-hour challenges and long Classic events in separate formats.

Historic racing is the point

Historic Sportscar Racing fits a driver drawn to the cars and history of earlier competition. Choose an eligible historic car and an appropriate program first, then match the driving and support demands to your experience.

An older production racer, a historic GT car and a prototype retired from contemporary competition are different commitments. Parts, specialist knowledge, car provenance and mechanical sympathy matter as much as available seat time. Ask HSR to confirm the specific car’s eligibility and run group.

The endurance programs

HSR’s announced 2027 schedule includes the Sebring Classic 12 Hour, Watkins Glen Classic 6 Hour, Road Atlanta Classic 10 Hour and Daytona Classic 24 Hour. The schedule announcement also describes a Classic Endurance Championship for historic prototypes retired from contemporary competition.

The separate 2026 B.R.M. Endurance Challenge regulations cover one-hour enduros and several HSR challenge categories. Ask which race, run group, session structure and event supplement govern your program.

Licenses and co-driving

HSR requires every driver and co-driver to hold an HSR-issued Competition or Super Competition License. Submit the required application and credentials through HSR.

The 2026 one-hour rules require declaration of the primary driver and any co-driver. The team resolves minimum driver counts for the 2027 long Classics before allocating a seat.

Prepare around the car’s needs

Ask the team who maintains the car, what spares travel, how component life is tracked and how drivers are briefed on operating limits. Check cockpit fit, controls, visibility, radio provision and emergency egress. Rehearse any permitted driver change in the actual car.

Agree on mechanical stop criteria, repair authority, weather decisions, damage liability and driving allocation. Video and data help drivers communicate symptoms precisely.

How I help

I coach goals-first assessment at the track and in the simulator, and I review your driving video and data with you. Where the class rules allow it, I can share the car with you. If the goal is contemporary production-car endurance, compare WRL.

Questions before booking

How long do I drive in a Classic 24?

That depends on your program and session structure.

Do the 2026 one-hour driver rules apply to the 2027 Classics?

No. They cover different programs and years. Get the applicable regulations and supplement.

Is a modern GT car eligible once it is no longer current?

HSR assesses the particular car and program for eligibility and run-group placement.
