WeatherTech GTD and the long-term Daytona goal

GTD is WeatherTech's GT3 class, distinct from GTD Pro and GT4. David's goal is a class win at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.

Who this fits

GTD is a GT3 class in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. It is top-level multi-driver sports-car racing and a long-term destination for a driver building toward it.

My goal is a class win at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.

Cars and co-driving

GTD uses eligible GT3 machinery. It is distinct from GTD Pro, Pilot Challenge GS, VP Challenge and Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

The 2026 GTD rules require two drivers for races under six hours, three for six-hour and 10-to-12-hour races, and four for the 24-hour race.

Long-event preparation covers sustainable stints, traffic, driver changes, consistent feedback across the roster and execution through changing conditions.

Ratings, licenses and awards

The 2026 regulations require FIA driver ratings and IMSA membership. GTD lineup clauses cap the use of Platinum and Gold drivers. There is no general GTD Bronze minimum. The Akin Bronze Cup is a separate award.

IMSA approves the roster, the car and the team entry. The announced 2027 WeatherTech calendar has 11 races across the championship’s classes.

How I help

I have three years full time at the track, and I have won in shared GT4 cars, including the Michelin Pilot Challenge GS Bronze Cup at Daytona and Mid-Ohio in 2025. That shared-car work is the base for the endurance preparation I coach toward GTD. I work with you at the track and in the simulator, and I review your data with you.

Questions drivers ask

Is GTD the same as GTD Pro?

No. They are separate WeatherTech GT3 classes with different lineup structures.

Must every GTD entry include a Bronze driver?

No. The 2026 GTD clauses cap Platinum and Gold participation and state no GTD Bronze minimum. The Akin Bronze Cup is a separate award.

Does racing Pilot Challenge lead to Daytona in GTD?

It builds the shared-car experience that GT3 endurance racing needs. Pilot Challenge is where I won at Daytona in 2025.
