Machine Nerve is David Hodge Jr’s motorsport software company. Every tool started at a race weekend. This note is about WRL Road Atlanta in 2024.
The need
David’s notes after the race include a plan for a race monitor tool. The plan listed what it should do.
- Show all the laps of the drivers in a session.
- Show the best and the average for each driver.
- Let a user select two or more drivers to compare.
- Calculate the delta between those drivers.
The same notes end with one rule in capital letters. Pull the data after every session.
The tool
Machine Nerve now shows every lap of every rival in a session, with the deltas. A user picks the rivals to follow. The monitor lays their laps side by side. It shows the gap between any two of them, lap after lap.
Why it was built at the track
David drove a Supra GT4 in WRL at Road Atlanta. The notes he wrote there became the plan for the monitor.
